Tips for finding free, authoritative information. Below are some starting point sites for online research projects.

Seriously. Don't waste your time with "Live Search" unless you are shopping.

Think about your keywords. Make each one count.

Google Search with Cache Save time and start your search with Google. Get right to the information you need by focusing on the search result screen and looking for "cache" on the line where the URL appears. Click "cache" and references to your search term(s) are highlighted in the corresponding results. While sometimes, this feature is not available it's an incredible timesaver for most searches.

The Exalead Search Engine Is Google starting to disappoint? Then check out the "other"search engine, developed to bring authoritative, rather than popular results to the top.

The Wall Street Journal Online The "Today's Free Features" section offers readers a good amount of free content. Also found on this site are baseline stock research tools.

The New York Times Online A news story from the well regarded New York Times alway add credibility and value to research. Recently content and archives were opened up to non-subscribers.

Google News This site brings very current news stories to your fingertips. By eliminating "archived" stories that clutter many sites - Google News brings you only the most recent stories from college newspapers to media giants.
